Nine Republican hopefuls are vying to become the next Speaker of the House of Representatives, following the ousting of former Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) three weeks ago. The candidates will present their cases to the House Republican Conference on Monday, with Rep. Steve Scalise (R-La.) and Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) among them. Former GOP member David Jolly said that all nine candidates need to get 217 votes to win the nomination, and the lowest vote getter will be knocked off each round until there’s one man standing.
