Celia Cruz, the Queen of Salsa, will be honored on a quarter in 2024 as part of the American Women Quarters Program. This program, launched in 2020, recognizes people of diverse backgrounds for their accomplishments, and Cruz will be the first Latina singer featured. The Mint has been issuing commemorative coins since 1792, and the American Women Quarters Program is the latest effort to honor the contributions of women throughout history.

The Biden administration has transferred Majid Khan, a Pakistani citizen and US resident, from the Guantanamo Bay detention facility to Belize. Khan had been held for more than three years at secret CIA prisons and had taken responsibility for his actions, pledging to cooperate with the U.S. Government. The transfer is the first of at least three detainees that the Biden administration is preparing to transfer in the coming weeks as part of their efforts to close the Guantanamo Bay detention facility.
