President Joe Biden has announced the establishment of a new national monument, Baaj Nwaavjo I'tah Kukveni — Ancestral Footprints of the Grand Canyon National Monument, to protect nearly 1 million acres of federal lands adjacent to Grand Canyon National Park from uranium mining and other development. The monument will preserve the ancestral land that is sacred to several Native American tribes, protect more than 3,000 mining leases, and help to protect the area’s natural beauty and cultural heritage. It is a major victory for conservationists and Native American tribes.

Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) returned to the Senate Judiciary Committee on Wednesday, providing a much-needed Democratic vote to advance three of President Joe Biden's judicial nominees on party-line votes. Her return was met with applause from her colleagues, as the panel was split between 11 Democrats and 10 Republicans prior to her return. The nominees will now move to the Senate floor for consideration, though it is unclear when the Senate will vote on them.
