After 45 years of searching, the remains of Auburn University student Kyle Clinkscales, who disappeared in 1976, have been identified. The remains were found inside his 1974 Ford Pinto in a creek in Cusseta, Alabama, and were positively identified by the Troup County Coroner's Office after DNA analysis. The Troup County Sheriff's Office has asked anyone with information about the case to contact them, providing closure to Clinkscales' family and friends.
President Joe Biden has called for new protocols and safeguards to protect against foreign espionage and surveillance in response to the U.S. military shooting down a Chinese spy balloon off the coast of South Carolina. The search for two other unidentified objects shot down near Alaska and the Great Lakes region have concluded with no sign of debris. The Navy, Coast Guard and FBI have collected all of the balloon's debris, which could reveal what information it was able to monitor and collect.
Anthony Mitchell, a 33-year-old pretrial detainee at the Walker County Jail in Alabama, died after being left naked on a concrete jail floor for days and being transported to the hospital with dangerously low body temperature. His family has filed a lawsuit alleging negligence by the jail staff, and the FBI has joined the investigation. The lawsuit seeks unspecified damages and a jury trial, in the hopes of bringing justice for Mitchell and preventing similar tragedies in the future.

The documents in question arrived at the university on June 6, 2012, and the FBI retrieved materials from two university locations on two different days. The investigation is ongoing, and it is unclear what the FBI is looking for or if any documents have been found, or if any legal action will be taken against the president.
A New York appeals court has ruled that former President Donald Trump was correctly held in contempt for failing to turn over documents demanded in a subpoena. Alina Habba, an attorney for Trump, has been a lead attorney in the case and has made notable TV appearances defending Trump. The appeals court ruling upheld the lower court's contempt finding, but no sanctions were imposed against Trump.
The Justice Department has recently received a folder with classified markings from former President Donald Trump's legal team, which was voluntarily turned over by his lawyers. In addition to the folder, Trump's lawyers have also voluntarily turned over to federal investigators additional papers marked as classified, as well as a laptop belonging to a Trump aide. The Justice Department has appointed a special counsel to investigate the retention by Trump of hundreds of documents marked as classified at his Florida estate.
