Rep. George Santos, R-N.Y., admitted to being "a terrible liar" in a candid interview this week, having made numerous false claims about his mother's having been in the Twin Towers on 9/11 and his "Jew-ish" ancestry. Host Piers Morgan grilled Santos about how he thought he could get away with the fabrications, to which Santos responded that he didn't think he'd ever be found out. Questions about Santos' biography have swirled since a New York Times investigation last year, and it remains to be seen if he will be held accountable for his actions.

Genaro García Luna, Mexico's former public security secretary, was convicted in a US federal court of taking massive bribes to protect drug cartels. He is the highest-ranking current or former Mexican official ever to be tried in the United States, and his conviction marks a major victory for the US Attorney's Office in its fight against drug trafficking and corruption. It also serves as a reminder of the need for strong anti-corruption measures to ensure public officials are held accountable.
Lawyers for one of the defendants in the seditious conspiracy trial of five Proud Boys leaders have drafted a subpoena to compel former President Donald Trump to testify as a witness. The subpoena requests Trump's compliance by the beginning of March, and Norm Pattis, a lawyer for the defendant, said Trump's role in the Capitol riot might warrant his presence as a witness. It is unclear if Trump will take the stand, as the defense team will have to deal with the logistical difficulties of serving a subpoena to a former president.
An ancient Hebrew Bible estimated to be over 1,000 years old is set to be auctioned off in New York in May, with an expected sale price of $30 million to $50 million. Known as the "Codex Sassoon" or "Crown of Aleppo," it is one of the oldest and most complete manuscripts of the Hebrew Bible, written in the 10th century. If it fetches the estimated amount, it will exceed the $43 million sale of a first edition U.S. Constitution in 2021 and become the most expensive literary item ever sold.
A judge has ordered the partial release of a highly anticipated report by the Atlanta-area special grand jury that investigated Donald Trump's actions in Georgia after the 2020 election. The report's introduction, conclusion, and a section discussing concerns that some witnesses may have lied under oath will be released on Thursday. The rest of the report will remain under wraps until prosecutors complete their investigation, and it is unclear what new information the portions of the report will reveal.

Payton Gendron, a 19-year-old white supremacist from Conklin, New York, was sentenced to life in prison without parole on Wednesday for a racially motivated mass shooting at a Buffalo, New York grocery store last year, which left 10 people dead and three more injured. Judge Susan Eagan denied Gendron youthful offender status and instead sentenced him as an adult, saying there can be "no mercy" for his "ignorant, hateful, and evil ideologies." Gendron's sentencing marks the end of a tragic event that has left the Buffalo community mourning the victims of the shooting.
