A U.S. strike on an alleged drug-smuggling boat killed two people and left six survivors, according to U.S. Southern Command. The attack brings the campaign’s toll to more than 60 vessels hit and more than 210 people killed since September.

A fire at Viva Wyndham Dominicus Beach in Bayahibe killed a 46-year-old Italian tourist, injured at least nine people and forced about 1,690 guests to evacuate. Officials said wind and flammable thatched roofing helped the flames spread quickly, while the cause remains under investigation.
James Boyard, Haiti’s Defense Ministry cabinet director and police inspector general, was kidnapped in Bourdon, a Port-au-Prince area considered relatively safe. It was not clear who abducted him or whether a ransom had been requested.
