Jacob Chansley, the spear-carrying rioter from the Jan. 6 Capitol assault, has filed paperwork to run for the U.S. House of Representatives in Arizona's 8th Congressional District as a Libertarian. He is running for the seat currently held by U.S. Rep. Debbie Lesko, who is not seeking re-election. Chansley is awaiting trial for several federal offenses related to the Capitol riot and it is unclear if he will be able to secure the party's nomination or run for office while awaiting trial.

Gregory Yetman, a former New Jersey National Guard police sergeant, has been apprehended by the FBI after a 48-hour manhunt. He is accused of pepper spraying officers during the Jan. 6 Capitol attack and faces several charges, including felonies. The FBI has thanked the public for their help in apprehending Yetman and is continuing to investigate the events of Jan. 6, asking anyone with information to come forward.
Steve Bannon, a former adviser to Donald Trump, will appear in federal appeals court on Thursday to challenge his four-month prison sentence for refusing to comply with a subpoena from the Jan. 6 committee. He was found guilty of two counts of criminal contempt of Congress in July 2022 and his lawyers will argue unresolved constitutional questions. The appeals court will decide whether or not the conviction should stand, determining whether or not Bannon will serve his prison sentence.
U.S. Capitol Police arrested a man with a rifle in a park near Senate office buildings in Washington, D.C. Sen. Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) responded to reports that the arrested individual was carrying an AR-15. The Capitol Police said that they received a call about a man with a gun and officers arrested the man in the park, reminding the need for increased security around the Capitol building and other government buildings in Washington, D.C.
At the Florida Freedom Summit, Republican presidential candidate Asa Hutchinson was met with boos after suggesting Donald Trump could be convicted of a felony in 2021. Samantha Murchie, a 52-year-old resident of New Port Richey, Fla., expressed her support for Trump, citing her desire to see him have four years of uninterrupted progress on his agenda. Despite facing four separate criminal indictments with 91 felony charges, Murchie believes Trump should be given the opportunity to continue his agenda without having to worry about re-election.
Larry Fife Giberson, a former Princeton University student, was sentenced to two months in federal prison for his role in the January 6th attack on the U.S. Capitol. Giberson admitted to joining a mob of Donald Trump supporters and chanting “drag them out!” at officers guarding an entrance. U.S. District Judge Carl Nichols noted Giberson’s “genuine remorse” and said he had taken responsibility for his actions. He is one of hundreds of people charged in connection with the attack on the Capitol.
A federal judge in Florida is considering delaying the start of the classified documents trial of Donald Trump due to the other criminal cases he is facing and the amount of evidence his attorneys need to review. Trump's attorneys had requested to postpone the trial, and U.S. District Judge Aileen Cannon for the Southern District of Florida appears ready to side with them. The outcome of the Mar-a-Lago trial could have a major impact on the former president’s legal future.
The House of Representatives is set to consider two separate censure resolutions, one for Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene and one for Democratic Rep. Rashida Tlaib. Greene's resolution accuses Tlaib of leading an "insurrection" at the Capitol last month, while Tlaib's resolution is in response to Greene's criticism of her over her criticism of Israel. The House will now decide whether to punish either or both of the two lawmakers for their controversial statements, with Greene's resolution seen as an attempt to trivialize the events of Jan. 6 and Tlaib's resolution seen as an attempt to hold Greene accountable.
