Surveillance footage showed her ex-boyfriend waiting for her when she returned home for her lunch break, and he drove her to a truck stop in LaSalle, Michigan, where he fatally shot her. After confessing to his parents, Wendling drove hundreds of miles away to Iowa, where he killed himself.
