At least three people were killed in a mass shooting at The Covenant School in Nashville on Monday. Tennessee Governor Bill Lee identified two of the victims as Cindy Peak and Katherine Koonce, both teachers at the school. Maria Colomy, an art instructor at Nossi College of Art & Design, taught the shooter, Audrey Hale, for two semesters in 2017. Governor Lee mourned the victims of the “horrific act of violence” and Colomy expressed her condolences to the victims’ families. The shooting is still under investigation and The Covenant School has released a statement offering their support to the families of the victims.
Camp, a venture-backed retailer based in New York, is facing financial difficulties due to the collapse of Silicon Valley Bank on Friday. In response, Camp has sent an email to customers offering a 40% discount on all merchandise with the code “BANKRUN”, while Etsy has sent an email to sellers warning of delays in processing payments. NASA, SpaceX, and the United Arab Emirates are working together to launch a historic mission to the International Space Station on Monday. The four-man crew consists of two NASA astronauts, one Russian cosmonaut, and the first-ever UAE astronaut. This mission marks the first time that astronauts from all three countries will be working together in space, and is part of a public-private partnership between NASA and SpaceX to keep the ISS fully staffed and to return astronaut launches to US soil. It is also part of the UAE’s ambitious space program, and is expected to be a success.
A piece of wreckage from the SS Savannah, the first vessel to cross the Atlantic Ocean partly under steam power, was discovered on a New York shoreline after Tropical Storm Ian last fall. The Fire Island Lighthouse Preservation Society and National Park Service are now working together to identify the wreckage and put it on public display. If the wreckage is confirmed to be from the SS Savannah, it would be a significant find for historians and researchers.
