Jacob Chansley, the spear-carrying rioter from the Jan. 6 Capitol assault, has filed paperwork to run for the U.S. House of Representatives in Arizona's 8th Congressional District as a Libertarian. He is running for the seat currently held by U.S. Rep. Debbie Lesko, who is not seeking re-election. Chansley is awaiting trial for several federal offenses related to the Capitol riot and it is unclear if he will be able to secure the party's nomination or run for office while awaiting trial.

Steve Bannon, a former adviser to Donald Trump, will appear in federal appeals court on Thursday to challenge his four-month prison sentence for refusing to comply with a subpoena from the Jan. 6 committee. He was found guilty of two counts of criminal contempt of Congress in July 2022 and his lawyers will argue unresolved constitutional questions. The appeals court will decide whether or not the conviction should stand, determining whether or not Bannon will serve his prison sentence.
The National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) is encouraging Republicans to make their stance on abortion clear to voters following the Democratic victories in Tuesday's elections. Senator J.D. Vance (R-Ohio) is advocating for reasonable limits on late-term abortions, with exceptions for rape, incest, and the life of the mother. The NRSC is pushing for Republicans to make it clear to voters that they do not support a national ban on all abortions in order to regain control of Congress.
Rhode Island held a special election to fill the seat vacated by former Rep. David Cicilline, with Democrat Gabe Amo, a former White House official in the Biden and Obama administrations, heavily favored. Amo ran on a platform of economic recovery, racial justice, and healthcare reform, while his Republican opponent Gerry Leonard ran on a platform of fiscal responsibility and government reform. Amo's win marks a historic moment for Rhode Island, as he is the first person of color to be elected to Congress from the state.

During the trial, prosecutors argued that Bankman-Fried had committed fraud and had cheated customers and investors, while the defense argued that Bankman-Fried had not intended to commit fraud and had acted in good faith. The jury's decision will now determine Bankman-Fried's fate, bringing to a close a spectacular rise and fall in the cryptocurrency industry.
