The Trump administration proposed tariffs of 10% to 12.5% on 60 trading partners, accusing them of failing to block imports made with forced labor. The duties would affect countries accounting for nearly all U.S. imports but must clear a comment process before taking effect.

Businessman Toby Doeden has advanced to a July 28 runoff for the Republican nomination for South Dakota governor. Gov. Larry Rhoden, Rep. Dusty Johnson and House Speaker Jon Hansen were competing for the second runoff spot after no candidate reached 35% of the vote.

Democrat Josh Turek and Republican Ashley Hinson won their Iowa U.S. Senate primaries and will compete to replace retiring Sen. Joni Ernst. The race is expected to draw heavy outside spending as both parties assess Democrats’ chances in a Republican-leaning state.
