California’s all-party gubernatorial primary remained too close to call, with Steve Hilton, Xavier Becerra and Tom Steyer competing for two November ballot spots. Key mayoral and House races also remained unresolved as ballots continued to be counted.

Businessman Toby Doeden has advanced to a July 28 runoff for the Republican nomination for South Dakota governor. Gov. Larry Rhoden, Rep. Dusty Johnson and House Speaker Jon Hansen were competing for the second runoff spot after no candidate reached 35% of the vote.
Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass has advanced to the November runoff, but her opponent remains undecided as ballots are counted. City Councilmember Nithya Raman and former reality TV star Spencer Pratt are competing for the second spot after a primary shaped by wildfires, homelessness and voter frustration.
Democrat Josh Turek and Republican Ashley Hinson won their Iowa U.S. Senate primaries and will compete to replace retiring Sen. Joni Ernst. The race is expected to draw heavy outside spending as both parties assess Democrats’ chances in a Republican-leaning state.
