Former NBA star Shawn Kemp has been charged with first-degree assault in connection with a drive-by shooting in Tacoma, Washington. Kemp's lawyers have argued that he acted in self-defense after tracking and trying to retrieve a stolen cell phone. Kemp is a six-time NBA All-Star who played for the Seattle SuperSonics from 1989 to 1997 and is currently awaiting trial on the charge of first-degree assault.

New York Red Bulls forward Dante Vanzeir has been suspended for six regular season games and fined by Major League Soccer (MLS) for using a racial slur during a match against the San Jose Earthquakes. In addition to the suspension and fine, Vanzeir will be required to participate in League-mandated training and education sessions, as well as a restorative practices program. He has issued an apology and addressed his teammates, but the amount of the fine has not been disclosed.
Hyundai Motorsport has confirmed the tragic passing of driver Craig Breen in an accident during a pre-event test for Croatia Rally. His co-driver James Fulton was unharmed, and the full circumstances of the 33-year-old Irish driver’s death are still unknown. Breen was a successful rally driver, having won the WRC2 championship in 2017 and competing in the World Rally Championship since 2012. The rally community has expressed their condolences and remembered Breen as a talented and passionate driver.
MLB teams have implemented new regulations for the 2023 season which have shortened the average game time. In response, at least four teams have extended alcohol sales through the eighth inning, including the Arizona Diamondbacks, Texas Rangers, Minnesota Twins and Milwaukee Brewers. Tom Lienhardt, a fan, said that it "totally makes sense" and it remains to be seen if this will be a permanent change.
Brittney Griner, a WNBA All-Star and two-time Olympic gold medalist, is set to release a memoir in spring 2024 detailing her experience of being arrested and incarcerated in Russia. Griner was arrested last year at the airport in Moscow on drug-related charges and detained for nearly 10 months, and is now ready to share her story. The memoir will provide an in-depth look into Griner's experience in Russia, and is sure to be an interesting read.
U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal of Connecticut suffered a broken leg during a victory parade for the University of Connecticut men's basketball team on Saturday, but is expected to make a full recovery after successful surgery. Despite the injury, Blumenthal got back up and finished the parade, and is currently staying at Stamford Hospital overnight. He plans to be back at work next week.
Jon Rahm of Spain won the 87th edition of the Masters Tournament at Augusta National Golf Club, claiming his first green jacket and second career major. He started the day four shots behind the leader, but carded a final round three-under 69 to finish 12-under and win by four shots. He was joined on the leaderboard by Brooks Koepka and Phil Mickelson, who finished in second and third place respectively, but Rahm was unflappable throughout the tournament, clinching his second career major and a place in Masters history.
