Four women accuse Jared Leto of sexual misconduct

Four women have accused Oscar-winning actor and Thirty Seconds to Mars frontman Jared Leto of criminal sexual conduct in encounters they say happened when they were teenagers, allegations detailed in a new BBC documentary.

The women, identified by the BBC only as Isabel, Alex, Clara and Etta, say the encounters took place between 2002 and 2016, when Leto was in his 30s and 40s. He is now 54. In total, 10 women spoke to the BBC documentary, “Jared Leto: Hollywood’s Dark Secret,” including nine who said they were sharing their accounts publicly for the first time.

Leto has not responded to the allegations put to him by the BBC despite repeated attempts to contact him, the broadcaster said. CBS News said it had not independently corroborated the accusations and did not receive an immediate response from Leto’s representatives. Leto has previously denied allegations of sexual misconduct, and no criminal charges have been filed against him.

One woman, Isabel, now in her 40s, told the BBC she was 17 when she agreed to meet Leto at a Las Vegas hotel after showing him and his friends around a store where she worked. She said the address turned out to be a “dingy gross motel.” According to her account, Leto called her into a bathroom while he showered, opened the curtain, kissed her, then grabbed her hand and used it to masturbate himself. She said she pulled away and told him she wanted to leave. Leto put on a towel and appeared to check who was outside before letting her out, she said.

“Most of my life I had viewed this event as, I was a stupid girl… and so this bad thing happened,” Isabel said.

Clara told the BBC she had sex with Leto at his California home when she was 17 and he was 34, while her friend waited in another room. In California, sex between an adult and someone under 18 can be classified as statutory rape. Clara said Leto “shrugged off” a conversation about the age of consent being 18 in the state. “He told me, ‘I would like you to call me daddy.’ And it was either pretend to be a little girl or ‘my little girl,’” she said. She described herself as “naive and vulnerable” at the time and said she was unsure whether the behavior was normal in an adult relationship.

Alex, who was 19 at the time, said she met Leto after a 2013 Thirty Seconds to Mars concert at London’s O2 arena. She told the BBC she said she was 17 because she “felt the need” to protect herself. Leto, then 41, replied, “Age is just a number, and anyway, we’re in Europe,” she alleged. Later, she said, an assistant encouraged her to go to a hotel room where she unexpectedly found herself alone with Leto. When she asked whether she could sleep on a chaise longue, she said Leto told her she would wake up “with a dick in her ass” and repeated the comment. Alex said she left after realizing, “I’m not safe.”

Etta told the BBC that Leto made repeated sexually explicit phone calls to her when she was 16 and on at least one occasion suggested they should have sex. She said he later sent her a non-disclosure agreement, which the BBC said it had seen. Etta said she refused to sign it.

The BBC said four additional women described receiving strange or sexual phone calls from Leto when they were younger. Another woman said that when she was 14, Leto made a lewd comment about her chest during an autograph signing and instructed a security guard to take her backstage at a music festival; her mother confronted him, but he repeated the comment, the woman alleged.

The BBC said it corroborated several accounts with friends and family who were told about the encounters at the time and reviewed pictures and messages supporting some claims. Two men who worked with Thirty Seconds to Mars told the BBC that staff felt uncomfortable about Leto’s interactions with teenage girls, including invitations backstage or to a house where the band was recording. “I think everyone thought the age gap was way too big,” one former employee said.

The BBC said it counted more than 120 separate allegations made online about Leto’s behavior toward women, some historical. In 2025, Air Mail published allegations from nine women accusing Leto of sexual impropriety. A representative for Leto “expressly denied” those accusations, and called allegations by Los Angeles DJ Allie Teilz “demonstrably false.”

Leto won the 2014 Academy Award for best supporting actor for “Dallas Buyers Club.” Thirty Seconds to Mars is scheduled to tour mainland Europe and the United Kingdom next spring.
