A Pennsylvania woman has been charged with killing her husband and three-year-old son in their room at a Pocono Mountains resort after calling police to say she wanted to die by suicide, authorities said.
Pocono Township police responded to the Great Wolf Lodge at 3:13 p.m. Monday after a woman in Room 2030 called for help, according to a police statement cited by NBC News. Officers found Charles Harrison and the couple’s son dead in the room. A criminal complaint identified the child only by the initials T.H.
The complaint said Charles Harrison had multiple stab wounds to the chest and the boy had one stab wound to the chest. Investigators found a large kitchen knife on the bathroom floor and a smaller knife in the bathroom sink, NBC News reported, citing the complaint.
Police identified the caller as Metallica Rose Harrison, 27, of Towanda. According to the complaint, she told a dispatcher that her husband and son were dead in the room. “They’re already gone, I’m sorry,” she said. The Guardian reported that Harrison also told police she “wanted to be with her husband and son.”
Harrison had cuts on her left wrist and neck and was taken to a hospital, The Guardian reported. During the ambulance ride, she spoke about the effort she had put into being a mother and wife, according to the complaint.
“Every day, I work so hard to be the best person, the best mother, the best wife,” she said, according to the complaint. “It wasn’t supposed to end like this. I was supposed to have my happy family. That’s what I envisioned since I was a child.”
The family checked into the resort on Sept. 21 and was scheduled to leave Tuesday, the complaint said. Harrison faces two counts of criminal homicide. A judge ordered her held without bail Tuesday, NBC News reported. It was not immediately clear Wednesday whether she had an attorney who could speak on her behalf.
“This case is an isolated domestic tragedy and there is no threat to the community,” Pocono Township police said in a statement. Police offered condolences to the family and others affected.
Great Wolf Lodge said the deaths occurred in a guest room at its Pocono Mountains resort and that it was cooperating with investigators. “We are deeply saddened and heartbroken by a tragic domestic incident,” the resort said. “Our thoughts are with the family and loved ones of those affected.”
