Lauren Boebert’s son faces child exploitation charges

Tyler Boebert, the 21-year-old son of U.S. Rep. Lauren Boebert, was arrested in Colorado on charges including sexual exploitation of a child after authorities said they investigated an incident from New Year’s Day 2024.

The Garfield County Sheriff’s Office said deputies arrested Boebert on Sunday following an investigation by the sheriff’s office and a felony review process by the 9th Judicial District Attorney’s Office. He was booked into the Garfield County Jail and released the same day on $10,000 bond, authorities said.

Boebert, who lives in New Castle in Garfield County, faces three counts of sexual exploitation of a child and two counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor, court records and the sheriff’s office said. The sheriff’s office listed the exploitation charges as induce/entice, possession with intent and video. Officials said the case remains under investigation.

“I love my son,” Rep. Lauren Boebert, R-Colo., said in a statement Monday. “We take these allegations very seriously and pray for everyone affected during this challenging time.”

NBC News, citing an affidavit in support of an arrest warrant, reported that the charges are tied to a 2024 video Tyler Boebert allegedly recorded with a 17-year-old. He was 18 at the time, according to the affidavit. The 17-year-old’s mother later told authorities that a video showing her daughter and Tyler Boebert having sex had been posted on Instagram, the affidavit says. The affidavit does not say who is alleged to have posted the video.

Tyler Boebert did not immediately respond to NBC News’ request for comment. It was not immediately clear whether he has an attorney representing him in the new case. NBC News reported that an attorney who previously represented him in a separate case did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

The arrest comes after another criminal case involving Tyler Boebert. In February 2024, he was arrested in connection with what police described as a string of vehicle trespass and property theft incidents.

CBS News reported that in that case, Tyler Boebert pleaded guilty to attempted identity theft and was sentenced to 80 hours of community service, a $1,200 probation fee and a two-year deferred sentence. The case was reopened last September, CBS News reported, and his counsel filed for revocation of probation. A hearing on the deferred sentencing is scheduled for Nov. 16.

After her son’s 2024 arrest, Lauren Boebert said he had been through “some very difficult, public challenges for a young man and the subject of attention that he didn’t ask for.”

“It breaks my heart to see my child struggling and, in this situation, especially when he has been provided multiple opportunities to get his life on track,” she said at the time. “I will never give up on him, and I will continue to be there for him.”
