Shakeira Yvonne Rucker, 37, was found dead Saturday in a storage unit at the Self Storage on Wiggins Road in Apopka, according to the Orange County Sheriff’s Office. Sheriff John Mina announced Sunday that Rucker had died from an apparent gunshot wound.
The search for Rucker began about one week prior to her body being found. She was last seen on Nov. 11, when security footage showed her with Cory Hill, her estranged husband, according to CBS affiliate WKMG-TV. The Orange County Sheriff’s Office had been assisting the Winter Springs Police Department in a search for Rucker that spanned multiple Florida counties.
On Saturday, authorities had just finished searching for Rucker in an area near Bob White Airfield in Mount Dora when they received a 911 call from someone at the Self Storage. When they arrived, they found Rucker’s body inside the storage unit registered to Hill.
Sheriff Mina said Sunday that the story has had a lot of “twists and turns” over the last week and covered many jurisdictions. He added that this was not the update they wanted to be giving the public. Hill is currently the primary suspect in Rucker’s murder and an investigation is ongoing.
