President Biden Vows to Stand “Shoulder-to-Shoulder” with Israel in Wake of Hamas Attacks

In the wake of the recent attacks on Israel by Hamas, President Joe Biden has offered his full support to the country, vowing to stand “shoulder-to-shoulder” with them. This comes after eleven Americans were killed in the attacks, a reminder of the pain of being attacked by terrorists on U.S. soil on September 11th, 2001.

In response to the attacks, Biden has ordered an aircraft carrier group closer to Israel and moved to supply Israel with needed munitions. He has also made it clear that U.S. aid to Israel should be unconditional.

However, Biden is sure to face competing pressures that will make it harder to keep his commitment. This was evident when Rep. Ritchie Torres (D-N.Y.) scolded fellow Democrat Rashida Tlaib (Mich.) for what he deemed “reprehensible and repulsive” comments after Hamas attacked Israel. Torres accused Tlaib, the House’s only Palestinian American, of mischaracterizing the invasion as “resistance.”
