Louisiana Public School Principal Apologizes and Requests Leave After Punishing Student and Questioning Her Religious Beliefs

A Louisiana public school principal has apologized and requested leave after punishing a student and questioning her religious beliefs.

Jason St. Pierre, principal of Walker High School near the state capital of Baton Rouge, issued an apology after he saw a video of 17-year-old Kaylee Timonet dancing at an off-campus party following the school’s Sept. 30 Homecoming festivities.

In response to the video, St. Pierre told Timonet she would be removed from her position with the student government association and that he would no longer recommend her for college scholarships.

Timonet’s mother, however, called the principal’s move to reinstate her daughter’s school privileges “too little, too late.”

In a statement, St. Pierre said he was “deeply sorry” for his actions and that he had requested a leave of absence from the school. He added that he was “committed to learning from this experience and growing from it.”

The school district has yet to comment on the incident, but has said it is conducting an investigation into the matter.

The incident has sparked a debate among parents and community members about the appropriate disciplinary action for students who are caught engaging in off-campus activities. Some have argued that the punishment was too severe, while others have argued that the principal was within his rights to take action.
