In the statement, shared with HuffPost on Thursday, Charles said, “In marking the first anniversary of Her late Majesty’s death and my Accession, we recall with great affection her long life, devoted service and all she meant to so many of us.”

King Charles thanked the public for their “love and support” in his statement. However, his comments come amid declining public support for the monarchy and questions about whether it should even continue.
