Former President Donald Trump has formally asked a Georgia judge to separate his case from 18 other defendants who have requested a speedy trial. Trump’s attorney, Steve Sadow, argued that the trial should not begin until October, as it would not give the former president enough time to prepare his case.

On Thursday, Fulton County Superior Court Judge Scott McAfee granted Trump’s request, and also announced that all related hearings and trials stemming from the investigation into an alleged scheme to overturn the state’s 2020 presidential election results will be live streamed and televised on YouTube.

Trump entered a not guilty plea in the case and will not appear for his arraignment. The former president has been accused of participating in a “criminal enterprise” that sought to overturn the election results in Georgia.

Sadow argued that having a trial start in late October would violate Trump’s right to due process and a fair trial. Trump has a long history of delaying legal proceedings brought against him, and this case is no different.

The judge’s decision to allow the hearings and trials to be live streamed and televised on YouTube will ensure that the proceedings are open and transparent. It is unclear when the trial will begin, but it is likely to be sometime in October.
