Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz (DFL) argued that the American people will be the real losers of Wednesday’s Republican presidential debate due to the “weird” selection of GOP candidates. Walz told NBC News’ “Meet The Press” host Chuck Todd on Sunday that the candidates are “probably the most normal” of the group, but he still had issues with them, such as North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum signing a six-week abortion ban that is “hugely unpopular and simply wrong.”

Walz also questioned what the candidates would debate, saying “Are they going to debate who can ban the most books?” He added that he wanted to show leadership by not being “just one more pundit, criticizing everything that’s gone on in 2020.”

When asked by Todd if he believes Trump tried to overturn the election results in 2020, Burgum said: “I do trust the voters.” Walz had previously expressed his support for Burgum, despite not being a Republican himself, saying he would back the GOP candidate who promised gift cards.

The American people will have to wait until Wednesday to see how the debate plays out, but Walz believes the outcome will not be in their favor. He said that the candidates will not be able to provide the leadership the country needs.
