South Korea is evacuating tens of thousands of scouts from the World Scout Jamboree in the southwestern county of Buan due to the impending arrival of Tropical Storm Khanun. According to Kim Sung-ho, a vice minister at South Korea’s Ministry of the Interior and Safety, 36,000 scouts from 158 countries will be transported by bus to venues in the capital city, Seoul, and the nearby metropolitan area.

The evacuation process is expected to take six hours or more, and the campsite will no longer be used for any event after the scouts leave. Hot temperatures have already caused thousands of British and American scouts to leave the site, which is located on land reclaimed from the sea.

Kim Sung-ho said the scouts will be accommodated at venues in Seoul and the nearby metropolitan area. The British scouts have already been transferred to hotels in the city.

The World Scout Jamboree is a global event that takes place every four years and brings together scouts from around the world. This year’s event was scheduled to take place from August 1-9, but due to the impending arrival of Tropical Storm Khanun, the event has been cut short.
