The U.S. Virgin Islands has issued a subpoena to Tesla CEO Elon Musk in connection with its lawsuit against JPMorgan Chase over sex trafficking by the late Jeffrey Epstein, according to a court filing revealed Monday.
The subpoena, issued on April 28, seeks documents related to any communication between Musk, JPMorgan and Epstein. The Virgin Islands government believes Epstein may have referred or attempted to refer Musk as a client to JPMorgan.
The Virgin Islands is asking Manhattan federal court Judge Jed Rakoff to allow it to serve Musk with the subpoena through Tesla’s registered agent. The subpoena also demands documents reflecting or regarding any communication between the three parties.
Musk has not been publicly accused of any wrongdoing related to Epstein, who killed himself in 2019 while awaiting sex trafficking charges in a federal jail in Manhattan. Spokespeople for Musk have denied reports of any referrals from Epstein.
