President Joe Biden is set to name Julie Chavez Rodriguez, a senior West Wing official and longtime Democratic Party activist, as his 2024 re-election campaign manager, three people familiar with the ongoing deliberations confirmed Sunday.

Chavez Rodriguez currently serves as a senior adviser and assistant to the president — among the highest staff positions in the West Wing — and director of the White House Office of Intergovernmental Affairs. In this role, she is responsible for outreach to mayors, county executives and governors, especially regarding implementation of the Biden administration’s agenda and in response to natural or other large-scale disasters.

Maria Teresa Kumar, the president and CEO of Voto Latino, a nonprofit organization that seeks to boost Latino participation in elections, said that Chavez Rodriguez’s “bona fides” make her a great choice for Biden’s campaign leadership team.

“Julie has been a passionate advocate for the Latino community for many years, and her experience in the White House and on the campaign trail will be invaluable to the Biden campaign,” Kumar said.

Chavez Rodriguez has a long history of involvement in Democratic politics, having worked on the Obama-Biden campaign in 2008 and the Obama-Biden transition team in 2008-2009. She has also served as a senior advisor to the Democratic National Committee and as a senior advisor to the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.

The decision to appoint Chavez Rodriguez as Biden’s campaign manager is expected to be formally announced in the coming weeks.
