The European Union’s foreign policy chief, Josep Borrell, warned Sunday that Ukraine’s available ammunition is critically low and Europe needs to take action to address the shortage quickly.

Borrell made the remarks during a speech at the Munich Security Conference, saying that allies have been taking up too much time with decisions on battle tanks for Ukraine, while the ammunition situation grows dire.

“They need to get less applause and better supplied with arms,” Borrell said of Kyiv’s global support. He added that the ammunition issue needs to be addressed in “a matter of weeks.”

In response to the situation, Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said that President Biden will be visiting Warsaw this week, and Ukrainian President Zelenskyy will also be in Poland.

Morawiecki said that the visits will be a strong confirmation of Europe’s resilience and joint efforts to defeat Russia in Ukraine. He added, “Don’t confuse the short-term objectives with the medium terms purposes.”

The European Union is now working to find a solution to the ammunition shortage in Ukraine, with Borrell urging allies to take action quickly. He said, “Short-term, very short-term, more ammunitions to Ukraine.”
