A federal judge in New York City has ordered Robert Hadden, an ex-gynecologist convicted of sexually abusing hundreds of patients, to spend the next two months in jail as he awaits sentencing. The decision was made after U.S. District Court Judge Richard Berman heard statements from some of the victims during the bail hearing.

The judge tersely shot down defense attorneys who sought to allow Hadden to remain free while awaiting an April sentencing hearing. Hadden had worked at two prestigious Manhattan hospitals, Columbia University Irving Medical Center and NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital.

The case gained national attention when Andrew Yang’s wife, Evelyn Yang, revealed she was one of Hadden’s victims. In a statement, she said, “I hope that my story gives strength to those who have suffered and sends a clear message that our voices will be heard and abusers will be held accountable.”

After the judge’s detention order, Hadden’s attorneys filed papers appealing the decision. It is unclear if the appeal will be successful. Hadden is scheduled to be sentenced in April.
