In a tragic turn of events, one person was killed and nine others were injured in a shooting that occurred near the New Year’s Eve festivities in downtown Mobile, Alabama. The victims, ranging in age from 17 to 57, suffered injuries ranging from non-life-threatening to severe. Despite the tragedy, the event continued on with fireworks and a moon pie dropping from a downtown building to mark the start of 2023.
According to Mobile Police Chief Paul Prine, the shooter and the person killed appeared to know each other. TV news footage showed police officers running and on horseback rushing to the area where the shooting took place approximately 45 minutes before midnight on Saturday.
