On Tuesday afternoon, firefighters responded to an RV fire at the Florida State Fairgrounds in Tampa, resulting in the death of five dogs. Bystanders attempted to get inside the RV, but were unable due to the intensity of the flames and smoke. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but appears to have been accidental. The American Kennel Club expressed their condolences and urged everyone to be aware of their surroundings and take steps to prevent fires.

At the 154th Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show, a Petit Basset Griffon Vendéen named Buddy Holly won the prestigious Best in Show award, marking the first time a PBGV has won the award. Co-owned and handled by Janice Hayes, Buddy Holly beat out six other finalists, including a Pekingese aiming to bring home the third trophy in 11 years for its breed. Buddy Holly's win is a major accomplishment for the PBGV breed, and a testament to the hard work and dedication of Hayes and her team.
