Dollar Tree Inc. Agrees to Nationwide Assessment to Address Workplace Safety Violations as Part of President Biden’s Pro-Worker Commitment

The U.S. Department of Labor has reached a settlement with Dollar Tree Inc., the parent company of discount retailers Dollar Tree and Family Dollar, to address workplace safety violations. The agreement requires Dollar Tree Inc. to conduct a nationwide assessment to identify and address safety hazards, as well as provide training and resources to store managers and employees. The settlement is part of the Department of Labor's ongoing efforts to ensure that all workers are provided with safe and healthy working conditions.

Investigation Reveals Over 300 Children, Including Two 10-Year-Olds, Working in Violation of Federal Labor Laws at McDonald’s Restaurants Across Four States

The U.S. Department of Labor has found that more than 300 children, including two 10-year-olds, were working in violation of federal labor laws at 62 McDonald's restaurants across four states. The 10-year-olds were found to be working until as late as 2 a.m. and performing prohibited tasks such as operating a deep fryer. The Department of Labor is currently investigating the violations and has not yet announced any penalties.

President Joe Biden Nominates Julie Su as First Asian American Woman to Lead U.S. Department of Labor

President Joe Biden has announced his nomination of Julie Su to be the next Secretary of Labor. Su is a civil rights attorney and former head of California's labor department, and has spent her life fighting for the rights of workers. If confirmed, she will become the first Asian American woman to lead the U.S. Department of Labor, replacing the departing incumbent, former Boston Mayor Marty Walsh. Su has worked to increase the minimum wage, create good-paying, high-quality jobs, and establish and enforce workplace safety standards, as well as crack down on wage theft and protect trafficked workers.
