Grand Jury Declines to Indict Akron Police Officers in Fatal Shooting of Jayland Walker

A special grand jury in Ohio has declined to indict the eight Akron police officers involved in the fatal shooting of Jayland Walker, a 25-year-old Black man, after a car and foot chase last year. Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost announced Monday that the officers were legally justified in their use of force, citing that Walker had shot at police from his vehicle and had made a motion during the foot chase that officers interpreted as threatening. The decision has sparked outrage among Walker's family and the local community, raising questions about the use of deadly force by police and the lack of accountability for officers who use it.
