Prince Edward, the youngest of the late Queen Elizabeth II's four children, has been given the title of Duke of Edinburgh on his 59th birthday. His wife Sophie will now be known as the Duchess of Edinburgh, and their 15-year-old son James has been given the title of Earl of Wessex. The title of Duke of Edinburgh was previously held by Prince Philip, and is one of the most senior titles in the British Royal Family.

Buckingham Palace has announced that Queen Consort Camilla will not wear the Koh-i-Noor diamond during the coronation of King Charles III in May. Instead, she will modify Queen Mary's crown using diamonds from Queen Elizabeth II's personal collection, in order to avoid the controversy surrounding the gem. This will be the first time in history a crown will be "recycled" for a coronation, as the coronation of King Charles III is set to take place in May.
