Residents of Southern Ukraine are facing a chaotic situation as they attempt to evacuate people from a vast area flooded by the destruction of a crucial dam in Russian held territory. Ukraine has accused Russia of shelling civilians fleeing the floodwaters and has called for an investigation into the dam's destruction. Emergency workers and regular citizens are risking life and limb to evacuate people from the flooded area and the Ukrainian government has called for international assistance to help with the relief efforts.

President Zelenskyy’s New Year’s Eve Address to Ukraine: Hope for Peace and Stability in 2023

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy delivered a New Year's Eve address to his country, just one week after his first trip outside Ukraine since the war began to the U.S. to meet with President Joe Biden. The war between Ukraine and Russia has been ongoing since 2014, with the death toll from the Russian attack on New Year’s Eve rising to at least three. President Zelenskyy urged his people to “hold on the best we can” and expressed hope that 2023 will bring peace and stability to the country with the Senate debating an additional $40 billion in aid for Ukraine.
