Three Red Cross volunteers in Congo have died after contracting Ebola during a March mission. The outbreak, affecting both Congo and Uganda, has prompted the WHO to declare a public health emergency of international concern.

The 123rd Boston Marathon saw record-breaking participation from all 50 states and over 100 countries, and was a celebration of the strength and resilience of the running community. Defending champion Evans Chebet of Kenya won the men's race, with Hellen Obiri of Kenya winning the women's race. Tanzanian Gabriel Geay came in second, and world record holder Eliud Kipchoge finished fourth.
