Man Arrested After Allegedly Attacking State Representative Maryam Khan Outside of Muslim Prayer Service

Andrey Desmond, 30, of New Britain, Connecticut was arrested and charged with assault and other offences after allegedly attacking State Representative Maryam Khan outside of a Muslim prayer service in Hartford on Wednesday. He allegedly made lewd comments, attempted to kiss her, and then struck her and threw her to the ground. At his arraignment on Thursday, Desmond was ordered held in lieu of $250,000 bond and the Hartford Police Department released a statement saying that they are “committed to protecting all members of our community” and the incident is still under investigation.

Long Island Business Owner Arrested and Charged with Eight Counts in Connection with Capitol Attack

Peter Moloney, a Long Island business owner, was arrested by the FBI on Wednesday and charged with eight counts in connection with the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol. He is accused of spraying insecticide at police officers and targeting members of the news media, and is facing up to 10 years in prison if convicted. The FBI has charged more than 300 individuals in connection with the attack and is seeking more information.

Texas Governor Appoints John Scott as Interim Attorney General Following Impeachment of Ken Paxton

Texas Governor Greg Abbott has appointed John Scott as the interim Attorney General following the impeachment of Ken Paxton by the Republican-controlled House of Representatives. Scott is a former Texas Secretary of State and Deputy Attorney General, and Abbott praised his decades of experience and expertise in litigation. The Senate will have the final say on whether or not Paxton is removed from office, but it is unclear when they will take up the issue.

Texas House of Representatives Set to Hold Historic Impeachment Proceedings Against Attorney General Ken Paxton

On Saturday, Texas will hold historic impeachment proceedings against Attorney General Ken Paxton, who is accused of bribery, unfitness for office, and abuse of public trust. The House has introduced 20 articles of impeachment against Paxton, who has been Texas’ top lawyer for three terms and is one of the GOP’s most prominent legal combatants. If the House votes in favor of impeachment, Paxton will be suspended as the state’s top law enforcement officer pending the outcome of a trial in the Texas Senate.

Texas House of Representatives Committee Unanimously Votes to Recommend Impeachment and Removal of State Attorney General Ken Paxton

The Texas House of Representatives committee has unanimously recommended the impeachment and removal of state Attorney General Ken Paxton after an investigation into allegations of misuse of official information, abuse of official capacity, bribery, and obstruction of justice. Paxton has denied any wrongdoing and has not been charged with any crimes, but the House could vote on the recommendation as soon as Friday. If the Senate finds him guilty, he would be removed from office.
