Italian Mafia Boss Matteo Messina Denaro, Last of the Major Mafia Bosses, Dies After 30 Years on the Run

Matteo Messina Denaro, an Italian Mafia boss who had been on the run for 30 years, has died in a hospital prison ward. He was convicted of numerous crimes, including the 1992 murders of anti-mafia prosecutors Giovanni Falcone and Paolo Borsellino. His death marks the end of an era of organized crime in Italy and is seen as a major victory in the fight against the Mafia.

INTERPOL and Italian and French Authorities Team Up to Arrest Convicted Murderer Edgardo Greco After 16 Years on the Run

After 16 years on the run, Italian fugitive and convicted murderer Edgardo Greco was arrested this week in Saint-Etienne, France. He had been working under the alias Paolo Dimitrio and was convicted in absentia in 1991 for the double homicide of brothers Stefano and Giuseppe Bartolomeo. The arrest was made after a coordinated effort between Italian and French authorities, and is the latest mobster to be apprehended by Italian anti-Mafia police. Greco is currently being held in France and is awaiting extradition to Italy, where he is expected to face trial for his crimes.
