Ukrainians celebrated Christmas on December 25th for the first time this year, after the government changed the date from January 7th. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy released a Christmas message praising Ukraine’s “capabilities in negotiations with partners” and referring to the country’s claim to have destroyed three Russian fighter planes on Friday. Ukrainians celebrated with church services, prayer, and a Christmas dinner, and are hopeful that the new year will bring further progress in the fight for freedom.

Nikki Haley, former U.N. Ambassador, criticized Donald Trump at the Republican Jewish Coalition’s annual conference, emphasizing the need for a Republican candidate who can win the election. Trump received a hero’s welcome at the event, despite his controversial views on Israel, and other 2024 GOP presidential candidates sought to peel away support from the former president.
The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) released a report on Thursday revealing a 36% increase in antisemitic incidents in the US in 2022, the highest level since 1979. The report found that harassment, vandalism, and assault incidents all rose, with visibly Orthodox Jews targeted in more than half of all assault incidents nationwide. In response, the ADL is launching a new initiative called "Stop the Hate" to combat antisemitism and other forms of hate through education, advocacy, and community engagement.
Ivan Provorov, a Philadelphia Flyers defenseman, chose not to participate in the team's annual Pride Night due to his Russian Orthodox religion. Despite some criticism from fans, his coach respected his decision and Provorov was happy to be part of the team's 5-2 victory. This is the first time a player has chosen not to participate in the Flyers' Pride Night since it began in 2018.
