Two former fighters of the Russian private military company Wagner have spoken to CNN about their experiences on the battlefield in eastern Ukraine, where they described horrific losses in “first wave” assaults reminiscent of World War I. Ukrainian forces have responded to the shelling with counterattacks, and have managed to down five drones and capture two former Wagner fighters. Despite the shelling, officials in Kyiv said that Moscow is having trouble launching its large-scale offensive in the east of the country.

Biden and Lula Discuss Coalition to End War in Ukraine at White House Meeting

US President Joe Biden and Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva met at the White House to discuss the war in Ukraine. Lula proposed a coalition of countries not directly involved in the conflict to end the war and build peace. Biden will travel to Poland at the end of the month to meet with President Duda to discuss collective efforts to support Ukraine and bolster NATO's deterrence.

An international team of investigators has found "strong indications" that Russian President Vladimir Putin approved the supply of heavy anti-aircraft weapons to Ukrainian separatists who shot down Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 in 2014. The Joint Investigation Team has collected a large amount of evidence, including witness statements, intercepted phone calls, satellite images and videos, and identified the exact location from which the missile was launched. However, the team has insufficient evidence to prosecute Putin or any other suspects and has suspended their 8½-year inquiry into the shooting down that killed all 298 people on board.

An international team of investigators have released a statement claiming that there are "strong indications" that Russian President Vladimir Putin approved the supply of heavy anti-aircraft weapons to Ukrainian separatists who shot down Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 in 2014. The Joint Investigation Team noted that although there are strong indications that Putin was involved in the decision, the "high bar of full and conclusive evidence is not met." The team is composed of representatives from the Netherlands, Australia, Belgium, Malaysia, and Ukraine and is expected to release its final report in the coming months.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy Visits U.K. in Search of Advanced Weapons to Combat Russian Invasion

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has traveled to the U.K. in a bid for more advanced weapons to help in Kyiv's fight against the Russian forces. Upon his arrival, he was invited to sit in an armchair used by Winston Churchill, remarking that he felt the "feeling of how bravery takes you through the most unimaginable hardships to finally reward you with victory". He is now holding talks with Prime Minister Rishi Sunak at Downing Street, with the outcome of the talks yet to be seen.

President Joe Biden’s State of the Union Address: A Call for Cooperation and a Blueprint to Rebuild America

In his State of the Union address, President Joe Biden spoke of his desire to find common ground with Republicans and highlighted some of their least popular policy proposals. He also discussed measures to create a “safer Europe” and a “blue-collar blueprint to rebuild America.” Biden’s speech was met with a standing ovation from Democrats and polite applause from Republicans, and it remains to be seen how his plans will be received by the public and if they will help him secure a second term in office.
