Northeast U.S. Enjoys Respite from Extreme Cold, But Storm Effects Remain

After a weekend of frigid temperatures and wind chill, the Northeast United States is now experiencing a welcome relief with temperatures in the mid-40s Fahrenheit. However, the storm has caused some damage, such as the closure of Boston Medical Center's emergency department and the Mount Washington Cog Railway in New Hampshire. Residents are urged to take precautions and stay safe as temperatures continue to fluctuate.

Record-Breaking Cold Snap Hits Northeast, Causing at Least One Death

This weekend, the Northeast experienced a record-breaking cold snap, with temperatures reaching 47 degrees below zero at Mount Washington in New Hampshire and wind chill temperatures reaching 108 degrees below zero. Unfortunately, the cold temperatures have already caused at least one death, when a tree branch fell on a vehicle driven by a 23-year-old Connecticut woman. The National Weather Service has warned residents to take precautions against the cold weather and stay indoors.

Record-Breaking Cold Spell Hits Northeast US, Mount Washington Observatory Records Temperature of -47°F and Wind Chill of -108°F

A record-breaking cold spell has descended upon the Northeast United States, with the Mount Washington Observatory in New Hampshire recording an actual temperature of minus 47 degrees Fahrenheit and a wind chill of minus 108 degrees Fahrenheit. This record is believed to beat the US record of minus 105° F in Alaska, and the cold spell is expected to ease up in the coming days. Residents of the Northeast are advised to stay indoors and bundle up if they must go outside.
