Former MLB Pitcher and Accomplice Arrested in Connection with Deadly Lake Tahoe-Area Attack

Two people have been arrested in connection with a Lake Tahoe-area attack that left one man dead and his wife in critical condition. Danny Serafini, a former Major League Baseball pitcher, and Samantha Scott were arrested separately in Nevada in connection to the slaying of Robert Gary Spohr and the attempted murder of Wendy Wood. The Placer County Sheriff's Office is continuing to investigate the attack and is asking anyone with information to contact them.

Steve Garvey, a former Major League Baseball MVP and All-Star, has announced his candidacy for the U.S. Senate seat in California. He is running as a Republican in a heavily Democratic state, and believes fresh voices and new ideas are needed to address the issues facing California. He launched his campaign with a video featuring baseball imagery and alluding to problems facing the state, and the primary election is scheduled for June 5, 2022.

Legendary Third Baseman Brooks Robinson Passes Away at 83

Brooks Robinson, an 18-time All-Star and legendary third baseman for the Baltimore Orioles, has passed away at the age of 83. He was signed by the Orioles in 1955 and went on to become one of the most decorated players in the history of the game, winning 16 consecutive Gold Glove Awards and making 18 All-Star appearances. He was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1983 and his number 5 jersey was retired by the Orioles in 1977. Robinson is survived by his wife, three children, and six grandchildren and will be remembered as one of the greatest players in Orioles history.

MLB Teams Extend Alcohol Sales Through Eighth Inning to Combat Shorter Game Times

MLB teams have implemented new regulations for the 2023 season which have shortened the average game time. In response, at least four teams have extended alcohol sales through the eighth inning, including the Arizona Diamondbacks, Texas Rangers, Minnesota Twins and Milwaukee Brewers. Tom Lienhardt, a fan, said that it "totally makes sense" and it remains to be seen if this will be a permanent change.

Department of Transportation Apologizes for Misspelling Jackie Robinson’s Name on Road Sign

A road sign honoring Jackie Robinson, Major League Baseball's first African American player, was spotted in Queens on Sunday, but it was misspelled. The Department of Transportation replaced the sign on Monday and is currently investigating how the mistake occurred. Robinson's legacy is still celebrated today, and the installation of the sign is a reminder of his impact on baseball and civil rights.
