Russian strikes killed civilians in Zaporizhzhia, Kharkiv and Sumy as President Volodymyr Zelenskyy warned of a possible “massive attack.” Both Ukraine and Russia also reported major overnight drone activity, including a Ukrainian strike attempt on a refinery in western Siberia.
Russia said it shot down hundreds of Ukrainian drones as strikes targeted the St Petersburg region and other areas while a major economic forum ended. Zelenskyy said the attacks hit Russian naval and oil targets and again called for an end to the war.
Putin said he sees “no point” in meeting Zelenskyy for now, rejecting Ukraine’s call for direct talks and a ceasefire. Zelenskyy said Russia was “choosing war again” as attacks continued across Ukraine and the Sea of Azov.
Ukraine said it hit five vessels it accused of carrying stolen grain and military cargo, while confirming one of its maritime drones exploded near Romania’s Constanta port. The Romanian incident prompted warnings about the war’s spillover along NATO’s eastern flank.
Seven people were killed and 11 injured when a drone hit a bus travelling through Russian-controlled Donetsk, the region’s Kremlin-installed leader said. The strike came during a broad exchange of drone and missile attacks involving Russia, Ukraine and Russian-held territory.
The Secret Service of Ukraine (SSU) has arrested a woman in connection with an alleged assassination plot against President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Russia has launched more than 70 missiles and drones at Ukraine in recent weeks, resulting in two deaths and four injuries in a "large scale fire" in the northeast. The Ukrainian government has urged the international community to take action to prevent further escalation of the conflict.
