Three passengers have filed a class action lawsuit against Alaska Airlines, alleging that the airline breached passenger safety when an off-duty pilot allegedly activated the plane's emergency engine shutdown system. The lawsuit claims that the pilot should not have been allowed in the cockpit due to his reported depression and lack of sleep, and the passengers are now suing for emotional distress. Alaska Airlines has not yet commented on the lawsuit, and the case is ongoing.

Jay Withey, 27, of Kenmore, New York, is being hailed as a hero after leading 24 people to safety during a deadly winter storm. He broke into a nearby school, EDGE Academy, and used a snowblower to help the group dig out their cars and gather essentials to help feed the group. Cheektowaga Police Department said they are grateful for Withey’s actions and want the community to use his story to help them grieve after the storm. Withey said he was just doing what he had to do to save everyone.
