U.S. Capitol Police Lockdown Russell Senate Office Building in Response to Report of Active Shooter

U.S. Capitol Police locked down and evacuated the Russell Senate Office Building on Wednesday afternoon in response to a report of an active shooter. Videos posted to Twitter showed people evacuating the cluster of three Senate office buildings located on the north side of the Capitol complex. After a thorough search, no injuries and no shooter were located and the lockdown has since been lifted. Capitol Police are continuing to investigate the incident and are asking anyone with information to contact them.

DOJ Report Finds Minneapolis Police Department Engaging in Pattern of Unconstitutional and Discriminatory Practices

The U.S. Department of Justice has released a report finding that the Minneapolis Police Department has engaged in a pattern of unconstitutional and unlawful conduct, including excessive force and discrimination against Black and Native American people. The report calls for the City of Minneapolis to take immediate steps to address the issues and enter into a court-enforceable agreement to ensure that the MPD reforms its practices and policies. The findings of the report are a reminder that the fight for justice and equality is far from over.

Record-Breaking Cold Snap Hits Northeast, Causing at Least One Death

This weekend, the Northeast experienced a record-breaking cold snap, with temperatures reaching 47 degrees below zero at Mount Washington in New Hampshire and wind chill temperatures reaching 108 degrees below zero. Unfortunately, the cold temperatures have already caused at least one death, when a tree branch fell on a vehicle driven by a 23-year-old Connecticut woman. The National Weather Service has warned residents to take precautions against the cold weather and stay indoors.
