Two adults were killed and a child was injured in a shooting at the Chico branch of the Butte County Library. Police arrested 18-year-old Bradley Scott Sayer and said he appeared intent on carrying out a Columbine-type attack.

Tanner Horner was sentenced to death for the 2022 kidnapping and murder of 7-year-old Athena Strand in Texas. Horner pleaded guilty before trial, and the jury found he posed a continuing threat to society, rejecting mitigating factors presented by the defense.
