A 58-year-old man was hospitalized in serious condition Sunday morning after being bitten by a shark while surfing off the coast of Honolulu, Hawaii. Surfers nearby had already applied a tourniquet to the victim's wound before EMS and the Honolulu Fire Department arrived to administer life-saving treatment. Hawaii's Department of Land and Natural Resources advises people to be aware of their surroundings while in the ocean and to avoid swimming or surfing near schools of fish.

On Friday, a massive traffic pileup on Interstate 39/90 in southern Wisconsin left more than two dozen people injured and the highway blocked for hours due to snow, ice, and whiteout conditions. Beloit Memorial Hospital and Beloit Health System reported treating 27 patients from the accident, though the extent of their injuries was not immediately clear. Emergency crews responded to the multi-vehicle accident in both the north and south lanes of the highway, and the Wisconsin State Patrol said the highway was blocked for hours.
