UAW and GM Reach Tentative Agreement to End Six-Week Strike

After six weeks of striking, the United Auto Workers (UAW) and General Motors (GM) have reached a tentative agreement on a new labor contract, featuring a 25% wage increase across a four-and-a-half year deal with cost of living adjustments. The agreement still needs ratification from the union's national council and a majority of members, and if approved, employees will return to work at some point in November. The strike has cost GM an estimated $2 billion in lost profits and has affected more than 50,000 workers.

UAW President Shawn Fain said the strike “is working” but “we’re not there yet.” General Motors is the only remaining automaker without a contract with the union.

Eight Children Abducted from Arkansas Found in California Parking Lot

Frisco Police Apologize After Holding Black Family at Gunpoint in Mistaken Identity Incident

On July 23rd, a Black family from Little Rock, Arkansas were held at gunpoint by police in a suburb north of Dallas. The incident was caused by an incorrect license plate identification, and the Frisco Police Department has since apologized and is reviewing their policies and procedures. The body camera footage of the incident has sparked outrage from many, calling for greater accountability and transparency from police departments.

Three Active-Duty Marines Arrested and Charged for Involvement in U.S. Capitol Riot on Jan. 6

Three U.S. Marines, Micah Coomer, Joshua Abate and Dodge Dale Hellonen, have been arrested and charged with four misdemeanors for their involvement in the Capitol riot on January 6th. The FBI identified them through footage and Coomer's Instagram account, which showed him expressing support for the Boogaloo Bois. The FBI is continuing to investigate the incident and more arrests are expected.

Three active-duty Marines have been charged with participating in the Capitol riot on January 6th, 2021. FBI agents became aware of one of the Marines, Micah Coomer, after he posted pictures of himself inside the Capitol building on Instagram. Dozens of people charged in the riot have military backgrounds, but these three are among only a handful on active duty. No defense lawyers for the men have been listed in the court docket yet.
