White was preparing for the Junior Men’s Mountain Bike Cross-Country World Championships in Glasgow, Scotland when he was struck by a vehicle on a training ride near his home in Boulder, Colorado. His death has been met with an outpouring of grief from the cycling community, with USA Cycling offering its “sincerest condolences” to his family and friends.
A 26-year-old woman from Boulder, Colorado died after falling 500 feet while free-solo climbing a ridge at Rocky Mountain National Park. Her 27-year-old male climbing partner, also from Boulder, notified park rangers of her fall and was rescued by a Colorado Air National Guard helicopter. The National Park Service urges visitors to be aware of the risks associated with free-soloing and to always use proper safety equipment when climbing.
The Clark County coroner's office has identified human remains found at Lake Mead in Nevada last summer as those of Claude Russell Pensinger, a 52-year-old man who went missing in 1998. His brother identified him as a Navy and Coast Guard veteran, and the remains were found on three different dates. The cause of death is still unknown, but the coroner's office said it is not suspicious.
