At Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore, a horse trained by Hall of Fame trainer Bob Baffert was euthanized on the undercard of Saturday's Preakness Stakes. The horse, Havnameltdown, was bumped by another horse during the sixth race, causing him to throw jockey Luis Saez off his back. After being examined, it was determined that the injury to his left front leg was inoperable, and the decision was made to euthanize him. The incident is yet another black eye for the horse racing industry, which will continue to strive for transparency and accountability in order to ensure the safety of horses and jockeys.
On Thursday night, a 13-year-old shooter opened fire in the town of Mladenovac, Serbia, killing at least eight people and wounding 13. The shooter, a 21-year-old male, is currently being sought by police and the Interior Minister has called the shooting “a terrorist act.” This is the second mass killing in Serbia in two days, and the government is taking steps to ensure the safety of its citizens.
On Wednesday morning, tragedy struck Belgrade, Serbia when a teenage boy, K.K., opened fire in the Vladislav Ribnikar primary school using his father's gun, killing eight children and a school guard. Police responded quickly, arresting the shooter in the school yard. The Serbian government has expressed their condolences and promised to investigate the incident and take steps to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
