Mitch McConnell to Return to Senate Next Week After Hospitalization for Concussion

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell will return to work in person next week after being hospitalized for a concussion in March. He has been working from home in Kentucky since his release from a rehabilitation facility and will return to the Capitol for votes and other important business. His return will coincide with the return of Democratic Sens. Dianne Feinstein and John Fetterman, who have both been absent from the Senate due to health issues.

Donald Trump had a successful first quarter in his campaign for the Republican nomination, raising more money than nearly all of the Republican presidential candidates in 2016. Nikki Haley's campaign manager Betsy Ankney sent a memo to donors noting that Trump was "consumed by the grievances of the past and the promise of more drama in the future" and that the "sensationalized partisan prosecution in Manhattan understandably made Republicans more sympathetic to the former president." Nikki Haley is now testing out some more critical messaging toward Trump and her opponents, a departure from her previous stance of not having a negative word to say about the former president.

Tragedy Strikes Louisville: Five Killed in Mass Shooting at Old National Bank Branch, Including Close Friend of Governor Beshear

On Monday, a mass shooting occurred at an Old National Bank branch in Louisville, Kentucky, leaving five people dead, including a close friend of Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear. The shooter, a former employee of the bank, was killed a few minutes after the shooting began, and the other victims have not yet been identified. Governor Beshear expressed his condolences and urged people to come together to prevent such tragedies from occurring in the future. The Louisville Police Department is currently investigating the shooting and has asked anyone with information to contact them.

Taiwan's Foreign Minister Joseph Wu has condemned China's recent military exercises around the island, warning that Beijing appears to be preparing for war. US and China have both sent warships to the region and the US has increased arms sales to Taiwan, while French President Emmanuel Macron has called for Europe to become a "third pole" independent of both Washington and Beijing. Wu expressed confidence in Taiwanese preparations, as the international community watches the situation closely.
