Ohioans Reject Republican Effort to Block Abortion Rights at the Ballot Box

Ohioans have overwhelmingly voted against a ballot measure that would have made it more difficult to amend the state constitution, a move by Republicans to try and block efforts to legalize abortion at the ballot box. Opponents of Issue 1 were winning with most of the votes tallied, and President Joe Biden released a statement praising the result. A proposal to codify abortion rights in the state constitution has already made the November ballot and needs only a simple majority to pass, making this a major win for Democrats and a blow to Republicans.

Senate Democrats Urge Chief Justice Roberts to Take Action on Justice Alito’s Recusal From Cases Involving Regulation of the Supreme Court

A coalition of Senate Democrats has urged Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts to take action to ensure Associate Justice Samuel Alito recuses himself from cases involving regulation of the court. The request follows a report of an undisclosed luxury fishing trip with a Republican billionaire who later had cases before the court, as well as a column written by a former clerk of Alito's that raised further questions about the court's ethical standards. The Democrats are asking Roberts to ensure Alito recuses himself from any cases involving laws that regulate the High Court, and it remains to be seen how Roberts will respond.
